Anyone can print “Made in USA” on a label. Here is every piece of evidence we can put in front of you — and an honest explanation of what that claim actually means.
The flag industry has a deception problem.
In 2014, our founder went to Amazon to buy an American flag. What he found was page after page of foreign-made flags — many of them labeled in ways that implied American origin without actually stating it. “Ships from the USA.” “A proud U.S. company.” Flags photographed in front of American landmarks, sold by sellers with American-sounding names.
He couldn’t find a flag he could genuinely trust. So he built one.
“Philosophically, buying one from China just doesn’t feel right. It’s almost disingenuous. There’s something very symbolic about buying one that’s actually made here.”
That feeling is exactly right. A flag made overseas isn’t just a quality problem — it’s a contradiction. The national symbol should be made by the nation it represents. We believe that completely. Which is why we don’t just assert it. We prove it.
This page exists because “trust us” is not good enough. Every claim we make about our manufacturing origin is documented below. You can verify each one independently. If something on this page is ever inaccurate, we want to hear about it.

Star Spangled Flags is a certified member of the Flag Manufacturers Association of America (FMAA) — the only independent trade association that verifies domestic flag manufacturing. FMAA membership is not purchased. It requires documented evidence that all materials, construction, and labor meet the full Made-in-USA standard under FTC guidelines.
Every flag we sell carries a sewn-in FMAA authentication tag. That tag is not decoration — it is a third-party attestation that the flag in your hands was genuinely made in America.

We have manufactured American flags domestically every year since our founding. This isn’t a recent label change — it’s the foundation the company was built on.
Authentication tag on every flag
Every flag ships with a sewn-in FMAA authentication tag — not a sticker, not a hangtag. Sewn in, because that’s what staying accountable looks like.
From raw material to finished flag — all American.
Vague claims are easy. Specifics are hard. Here is every link in the chain, from the first thread to the final stitch. We are intentionally specific here — because “made in America” should mean something you can trace, not just something you can claim.
Nylon fabric
Our flags are made from heavyweight 200-denier nylon, woven in American textile mills. The fabric is treated for UV resistance and fast-drying performance before it ever reaches our facility. We do not source fabric from overseas suppliers.
Embroidery thread
Every star on every flag is embroidered — not printed — using American-spun thread in a densely filled count. Printed stars peel. Embroidered stars last. The thread is sourced domestically; the difference is visible and permanent.
Brass grommets
Our solid brass grommets are stamped in the United States. Two per flag, set into reinforced heading. They will not corrode, crack, or pull through — because the metal and the setting both meet American manufacturing standards.
Assembly and stitching
Every flag is assembled, stitched, and inspected at our facility in [City, State]. Two rows of lock stitching on the stripes. Four rows on the fly end. The people doing this work are Americans, employed here, paid fairly. No overseas finishing, no third-party fulfillment centers in other countries.
Quality inspection and packaging
Before a flag leaves our building, it is inspected against our quality checklist — stitching, color, grommet set, and dimensions. It is then packaged and shipped directly to you. There is no step in this process that happens outside the United States.
What “Made in USA” actually means — and what it doesn’t.
The phrase “Made in USA” has a specific legal meaning under Federal Trade Commission guidelines — and most flag sellers on the internet don’t come close to meeting it. Understanding the difference protects you from being deceived by labels that are technically legal but deliberately misleading.
The FTC standard requires that a product labeled “Made in USA” must have all or virtually all of its components manufactured domestically. This means the product’s final assembly and its significant parts and processing must originate in the United States. How to spot a fake Made-in-USA flag.
Before you buy any American flag — including ours — here is what to look for. We’re sharing this because an informed buyer is harder to deceive. If a seller can’t answer these questions clearly, walk away.
- Price under $12 for a 3×5 flag
- Listing says “ships from USA” but not “made in USA”
- Stars are printed, not embroidered
- No mention of FMAA certification
- No manufacturer name or location listed
- Seller has many product categories (not a flag specialist)
- Authentication tag is a sticker or hangtag, not sewn in
- Seller can’t answer “where specifically is this made?”
- FMAA certification with a verifiable link
- Specific city and state of manufacture named
- Stars are embroidered in densely filled thread
- Authentication tag is sewn into the flag
- Seller specializes in flags (not a generalist)
- Complete supply chain disclosed
- Price reflects domestic labor ($25–$50 for 3×5)
- Company history and founding story are publicly visible
